Order. We are in danger of opening up the debate. We are just dealing with the allocation of time. I am bothered that the intervention was sidetracking you, Mr Harris. I am grateful for your instruction, Mr Deputy Speaker. I also question the fact that this debate is taking place on, essentially, the last day of the Session, given that the issue has always been subject to a one-line vote and is a ... 30 Apr 2012 AYE

And I would agree if we had before us some regulation that would cover all airports, but we do not. So I am sorry: we have to start somewhere. Finally, I want to move on to the issue of emissions, which are of concern to us all. We all need to know that the CAA will pay proper regard to playing its part in meeting the 2015 targets, in a world in which emissions from aviation are going to increase,... 25 Apr 2012 NO

I fear that the convergence programme began so that countries could converge with the Maastricht criteria to join the euro. As it is clear that we do not want to join the euro, we should in no way be talking about convergence. I shall not be supporting this motion, because I fundamentally disagree with what is on the front of the document—convergence. I do not think that our currency or our countr... 24 Apr 2012 AYE
Question accordingly agreed to. The Deputy Speaker then put forthwith the Questions necessary for the disposal of the business to be concluded at that time ( Standing Order No. 83G ). I just want to say that the lawyers do not have to take 25% of the compensation. All the costs are recovered from the defendants in a case that has been won. It is only those costs that are irrecoverable from the defendants that can sometimes be recovered. In a straightforward case there is no reason for anything to be recovered over and above that, and lawyers should not automatically take 25% of... 24 Apr 2012 AYE

of those macro-prudential tools by this place and the other place. Hon. Members are right to call for a review of the use of those tools and a retrospective review of the Bank’s performance. That is important too. The economic growth element in the FPC’s objective is stronger and more restrictive than the growth element in the MPC’s objective. The MPC’s secondary objective “to support the economic... 23 Apr 2012 NO

Proceedings on Third Reading shall (so far as not previously concluded) be brought to a conclusion four hours after the commencement of proceedings on consideration on the second day.— (Mr Hoban .) Given that the UK is 94th in the world according to the World Economic Forum for the extent and complexity of our tax system, has my hon. Friend heard any proposals from the Labour party about how to make our tax rates more competitive or how to make our tax system simpler? I have to say that I have not. What I have heard from the Labour party is their resistance to any of our attempts to make our... 19 Apr 2012 NO
Let me move on briefly to other issues in the amendments. As I said earlier, passengers on business jet flights currently do not pay APD, whereas ordinary passengers aboard commercial flights do. We have recognised that anomaly, and are introducing fair changes to include business jet flights for the first time. I have touched briefly on the changes that we are making in relation to Northern Irela... 18 Apr 2012 NO

I will give way to my hon. Friend the Member for Beverley and Holderness (Mr Stuart) . A two-week extension is not a large extension, but it is an extension none the less. However, the Government and the Chancellor must ensure that this is a genuine consultation. Ministers have heard what has been said tonight. They must think again, and reverse their proposal. If they say that they will do so, I ... 18 Apr 2012 NO
Does my hon. Friend not think that it a bit ironic that people who are suggesting that the previous Labour Government’s problems created the financial crisis are the same people—the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives—who were calling from less regulation? It is interesting how the Government are trying to rewrite history. I have often made the same point myself. I was on the Government Benche... 18 Apr 2012 NO

his colleagues who are sitting on my right. I ask Members to give their own Minister some order when he is winding up a debate. Thank you, Mr Hood. I agreed with everything the hon. Member for Wrexham (Ian Lucas) said. His views are shared by many Members on the Opposition Benches—and one or two on the Government Benches as well, I am sure. Instead, it will be paid out of the damages of the injured person, meaning... 17 Apr 2012 AYE
