I, too, thank those who sat on the Committee and all those who have contributed throughout the Bill’s passage. I thank Opposition Members who have been involved, including my hon. Friend the Member for Warrington North (Helen Jones) and especially my right hon. Friend the Member for Delyn (Mr Hanson) , who has worked tirelessly in responding to the Government’s proposals at the various stages. The... 30 Jan 2014 AYE
Question accordingly negatived. Amendment proposed, 1, page 8, line 19, leave out leave clause 11.—(Yvette Cooper.) 30 Jan 2014 NO
Amendment 79 was tabled by the hon. Member for Hayes and Harlington (John McDonnell) , who spoke movingly about it, and co-signed by the hon. Member for Islington North (Jeremy Corbyn) . The basis of clause 3 is utterly flawed, given that it sets out the idea that directions for removal within 14 days are somehow sufficient grounds to assume that bail should not be granted. On any common-sense ana... 30 Jan 2014 AYE

Under the previous Government, we had an approach that decided that Whitehall and the Secretary of State knew best. We had centrally driven initiatives, such as the national strategies, that included chunking and told teachers how they should teach. Rather than empowering teachers, they deskilled them. As the shadow Work and Pensions Secretary has said, that led to shocking levels of English and M... 29 Jan 2014 NO
I am not sure how I can follow that really. Just agree with it. It is disappointing that so many organisations feel they have to bid for European money with so many strings attached. I am disappointed. We are paying for propaganda and politics, which we just do not do in this country. It is great shame that we have missed this opportunity to straighten those things out. Question put, That the Bill... 27 Jan 2014 AYE

It does not exclude the organisation mentioned by the hon. Gentleman. He could argue that he was promoting European citizenship and integration by promoting the reform of the European Union. The article does not talk about signing up to the European Union. I have made it absolutely clear that the amendments would end up defeating the regulation. They would delay funding for important commemoration... 27 Jan 2014 NO

I shall try to be at least as economical as the hon. Member for Caerphilly (Wayne David) . The Commission’s programme is a fascinating and important one. The modest motion before us asks only that we take note of the document and regard it as “a useful tool” for looking at that programme, so I am happy to support it. I thank the hon. Member for his succinctness. I had better make this my applicati... 22 Jan 2014 AYE
I thank the hon. Gentleman for his comment, and clearly those are issues that all charities have concerns about. The amendment would also reduce the amount of red tape for charities simply seeking to help people who are unable to bear their own burdens. I have been contacted by charities—in Northern Ireland and across the UK—highlighting how some constituency boundaries split towns between two con... 22 Jan 2014 AYE
What did you say? Hansard will prove whether or not I did, and it may even identify the Minister. Ministers of course ratify decisions and good ones ensure that their decisions go through, but, frankly, I can think of numerous examples where that has not been the case. Going to special advisers and civil servants, although usually with general ministerial consent—perhaps not from the particular Mi... 22 Jan 2014 AYE
I am grateful; the hon. Gentleman has a couple of minutes to tell Parliament what it needs to know. In the judgment of the Home Secretary, which of the six people who will be released from their TPIMs, and who were considered so dangerous that they needed to have those restrictive measures, still pose a security threat? The Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures Act 2011 provides for the ... 21 Jan 2014 NO

We received more than 1,100 written responses and more than 7,000 responses to the online questionnaire. One of those responses was 2,000 pages long, so the “demonstrates a high level of acrimony within the industry and is littered with claims and counter-claims”, which just shows that it is important to make sure that we get this right. The breadth and depth of views expressed in the Chamber toda... 21 Jan 2014 NO

I thought that the hon. Member for Corby (Andy Sawford) was very fair in his remarks about enforcement in his constituency. There is clearly more to come and I heard what he said about the new penalty figures and the penalties that have been levied. I am sure that my colleagues in BIS will take note of what he said. The hon. Member for Blaydon talked about care workers. As my right hon. Friend the... 15 Jan 2014 NO
Order. This has been a quiet and dignified debate. Members who were not present during it have now come into the Chamber. I ask them to have the courtesy to listen to the Minister. Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker. I do not know whether the Opposition are embarrassed by previous occasions when they claimed more would be paid from a bankers’ bonus tax than was actually paid in bankers’ bonuses. I am really pleased that the commission has been set up. The hon. Member for Penrith and The Border (Rory Stewart) is exactly the right man to lead on it, and I ask him to come over the Pennines as quickly as he can. He will be made to feel welcome in the north-east, because people there have lived through this, and although I am telling their story, I can never relate to it in the way they can. The point I am making is that the rules, which pre-existed this Government by the way, are very clear: investigation is not the same thing as Let me make the point, because it has been raised, that all the bidders on our list have experience of either working with offenders or across the wider criminal justice system. This is exactly the broad market that we want to see deliver these services. Bel... 14 Jan 2014 NO

That Labour councillor introduced an article 4 measure with immediate effect to prevent the conversion of more premises from other use classes to that of a betting shop. Let me quote that Labour councillor’s words on the Southwark council website— [ Interruption. ] She is a Labour councillor, and Labour Members might want to listen to her. She knows a lot more about this than they do. Councillor F... 8 Jan 2014 NO
No, I will not take any more interventions. Order. The House should listen to the Minister. The Chairman of the Select Committee also recognised that Labour did not deliver enough houses when in government. I regret to hear what the Minister is saying. One thing he could do is to change the clawback from 100% to 75%, which would at least give people a little more money. Some things are out of my hands, and such is the legal situation in relation to clawback. I cannot change that through the Bill. It just happens: if someone gets compensation, there is clawback on it at 100% because taxpayers’ money i... 7 Jan 2014 NO
I would like to associate myself with the thoughts and best wishes to the right hon. Member for Wythenshawe and Sale East (Paul Goggins) . He is a good friend.
